DIGITAsia Equipment Handed Over to the Islamic University of Maldives

The Islamic University of Maldives (IUM) marked an important milestone in its digital transformation journey with the official handover of equipment provided through the DIGITAsia Project.

The handover represents the successful completion of an important component of the DIGITAsia initiative at IUM, with four hybrid classrooms established and equipped to support technology-enabled, flexible, and innovative teaching and learning.

Official Handover of DIGITAsia Equipment

During the ceremony, Vice Chancellor of IUM, Dr. Ali Zahir, officially signed and received the DIGITAsia equipment from Dr. Aishath Waheeda, DIGITAsia Project Lead at IUM.

The handover marks a significant step in strengthening IUM’s capacity to deliver hybrid and digitally supported education, enabling students to participate in learning both physically and remotely through enhanced technology-enabled classroom environments.

Four Hybrid Classrooms Established

Through the DIGITAsia Project, four hybrid classrooms have been established at IUM. These classrooms are designed to facilitate seamless interaction between students participating on campus and those joining remotely.

The facilities will support more flexible learning opportunities while enabling lecturers to incorporate innovative digital approaches into their teaching. The development of these classrooms also contributes to IUM’s broader efforts towards digital transformation and the advancement of Education 5.0.

Demonstration by Trained and Piloting Staff

Following the official handover, a practical demonstration of the hybrid classroom was conducted by a staff member who had successfully completed the DIGITAsia Training Program and subsequently completed the piloting phase.

The demonstration provided an opportunity to showcase the practical application of the knowledge and skills gained through the DIGITAsia training, while highlighting how the newly established hybrid classroom can be integrated into actual teaching and learning.

The involvement of staff who have progressed through both the training and piloting stages demonstrates the project’s focus on building institutional capacity and supporting educators in adopting innovative, technology-enabled teaching practices.

Strengthening Education 5.0 at IUM

The establishment of four hybrid classrooms is an important step towards creating a more connected, flexible, and future-ready learning environment at IUM. It supports the DIGITAsia vision of advancing digital education and contributing to the transformation of higher education through technology, innovation, and human-centred learning.

The successful handover and demonstration reflect the continued commitment of IUM and the DIGITAsia Project to building sustainable digital learning capacity and empowering educators to embrace innovative approaches to teaching and learning.

With four new hybrid classrooms, IUM takes another step towards a more flexible, connected, and digitally empowered future for higher education.
